To provide participants with an understanding of carbon sequestration processes, the role of natural carbon sinks in climate regulation, and the importance of reducing greenhouse gas emissions to achieve global climate targets. Dr. Lynda Keren explained the concept of carbon sequestration and described how natural carbon sinks such as oceans, forests, and soils absorb and store atmospheric carbon dioxide. The session emphasized the significant role of oceans in mitigating climate change through carbon absorption and storage. Participants were introduced to global climate targets, including the need to reduce per-capita carbon emissions from approximately 4 tonnes to 2 tonnes annually to help limit global warming to 2°C by 2050.
