About the Orientation
The Institute of Medical Coding (IMC) team conducted a one-day medical coding orientation program at Hindustan College of Arts and Science, Kelambakkam, on 21 September 2026. The session introduced students to medical coding and explained how healthcare information is translated into standardised codes for medical records, billing, and related processes.
During the orientation, the IMC team discussed the practical applications of medical coding and gave students an overview of the knowledge and skills involved in medical coding training. The session also introduced coding systems such as ICD-10-CM, CPT, and HCPCS and explained the importance of medical terminology and human anatomy in understanding clinical documentation.
Students learned about medical coding career opportunities and how structured training and practical coding exercises can help them explore this field. The orientation gave participants an opportunity to ask questions about the Institute of Medical Coding (IMC), its medical coding training program, and possible next steps for learning medical coding.
